IS GLUE, INC. A NOT-FOR-PROFIT COMPANY?
Though
thegluenetwork.com provides many services
that are similar to not-for-profit corporations, we are a
for-profit.
Why not? For-profit companies have the ability
to generate more revenue, more partnerships, more
awareness, and more involvement because they can
retain more discretion on how the money is used. As a
result, we can financially support not-for-profit companies
that are appropriately committing their money and time
to direct aid efforts. The benefits of being a not-for-profit
with 501c3 status, such as tax exemption, are outweighed
by the benefits of being a for-profit company. We believe
we can raise more funds for social causes by being a
revenue generating company. All money donated to
causes via
thegluenetwork.com site, events or programs
goes directly to the causes themselves, and in addition, a
significant portion of our own profits from product sales,
etc. are donated to social causes with the remainder
designated for company operations. With this structure
we have the ability to generate more money and thus
donate much more money. In addition, we can support
multiple causes in need, and we can become a grant-writing organization.
WHERE DOES MONEY RAISED BY GLUE GO?
Money raised by
thegluenetwork.com through the site,
events, programs and products is donated to not-for-profit corporations that we have identiied to be reputable
and effective. When funds are donated for causes, 100%
goes directly to the intended not-for-profit. When funds
are generated from
thegluenetwork.com properties, 80%
goes to the selected not-for-profit and 20% is designated
for operating expenses. This breakdown is very similar to
the percentages for not-for-profit companies,
80-90% for actual aid and 10-20% for operations and
fundraising. With this model a signiicant amount of aid
is provided– money from direct donations resulting from
awareness created by
thegluenetwork.com and money
donated from any revenue earned by
thegluenetwork.com itself.
What causes? We are glued to: helping the
poor, ending the HIV/AIDS pandemic, disaster relief,
protecting human rights, caring for the homeless,
preventing substance abuse, education for all, protecting
our environment, feeding the hungry, a healthy world,
saving children and clean water for the world. Our desire
is to make a difference in the world and we would love to
work with any organization committed to doing the same.
However, we typically support not-for-profit companies
with a proven record of making a difference
as evidenced through progress reports and
financial statements.
WHY A NETWORK? WHY NOT JUST DO
FUNDRAISERS?
We value sharing, participation and a common
purpose. We believe that community can lead
to individual success, but also that the power
of the whole can be greater than the sum of
its parts. We consider interaction, inspiration
and networking to be essential for making a
difference in the world. Though fundraisers are
effective, we also think that many people want
to get involved in ways beyond donating mone
By getting people together in a network we can
offer access to individuals with time, talent,
resources and above all a similar passion and
purpose. In addition, we believe that awarenes
and involvement will ultimately raise more
financial support and enact more social change
than fundraisers alone.
